Feasts and Traditions
In Cala Gonone and Dorgali the feasts, festivals and processions are very numerous, including some very ancient traditions.

 16th January: Feast of St Anthony of Egypt, during which bonfires heat up the coldest part of the year, to symbolise new life.

19th January: Saint Sebastian, bonfire in Piazza Santa Caterina.

Carnival: Spectacular horse races in Via Umberto.

Holy Week: Moving processions in magnificent local costumes to celebrate the Paschal Liturgies. The most important feasts of Dorgali are the “FESTAS DE PANDELA” (Feasts of Banners), so-called because a banner of the saint celebrated is guarded by the family responsible for the organisation of the feast the following year. These are rural holy days on which traditional lunches are prepared for all those present.  Among the most important are: the Saturday between the 15th - 22nd May; Our Lady of the Way; the day before Pentecost - “Su Babbu Mannu”;

24th June: St John the Baptist, though this tends to be moved to the nearest Saturday;

27th July: Saint Pantaleus, though this tends to be moved to the nearest Saturday;

Dorgali August Bank Holiday is held on the Feast of the Assumption in Cala Gonone, culminating with a procession;

16th - 17th September: Ss Cyprian and Cornelius, patrons of the village.

 Important gatherings take place in Cala Gonone:

 End of April: Feast of Our Lady of Bonaria, torchlight procession to the sea;

May: Fish festival, with tasting of Dorgalese traditional products.
