THE
CAVES
Bue
Marino - “Sea Ox” Cave:
The cave is partially underground at
the entrance and extends in a south-westerly direction
for around 500m, reaching a depth of -3 to -6 m, one
branch-off even reaching -13m. Beyond this, there is a
large, dry tunnel around 100m long, containing the
last explored siphon.
In the subterranean tracts and large
lakes, notable concretions of stalactites and
large-sized columns are visible. 370 m from the
entrance, great deposits of sand begin to be present,
continuing for around 200 m; this is a very gravelly,
granular sand arranged in a wave-like structure. The
distance between the crest and the granulometry (about
1 m) indicates that it was deposited by currents of
certain force. Further along great rocky boulders
appear, in part concretized; their surface and base
are covered with scallops, 8-10 cm in diameter. |
